I still remember watching the Chinese television series Journey to the West when I was younger. Like many children, I enjoyed the Monkey King's adventures, his battles with powerful enemies, and the magical world filled with gods and strange creatures.
But as I grew older, another character began to stand out to me: Tang Sanzang, the Buddhist monk who traveled west to India in search of sacred scriptures.
He had one purpose firmly fixed in his mind. No matter how dangerous the journey became, he refused to abandon it. He crossed mountains and rivers, faced countless threats, and continued toward his destination.
What I remember most is that he often received help along the way. Gods and spiritual beings appeared to protect him, while his companions helped him overcome obstacles. In that fictional world, it almost seemed as though a protective energy surrounded him, supporting the purpose he had carried in his heart.
When I was young, I saw those moments simply as part of a magical adventure. Today, I see something else in them: the strength of a person who holds on to one intention despite everything standing in his way.
For me, learning how to manifest something begins with a clear desire, giving it attention, taking practical steps, and recognizing opportunities when they appear. Two stories have helped me understand that process.

Could That Be a Form of Manifestation?
I have sometimes wondered whether Tang Sanzang's journey reflects something similar to what we now call manifestation.
The story is filled with mythology, of course, but his determination feels familiar. He believed in his destination, kept it in his thoughts, and continued moving toward it.
I think we experience something similar in our own lives. When a desire becomes important enough, it can remain in our minds for years. We begin thinking about it more often, noticing things connected to it, and gradually changing the way we act.
From my spiritual perspective, those thoughts and intentions also carry an inner energy. I believe that energy can find harmony with the positive energy of the universe surrounding us.
I explored this belief more deeply in my earlier article, What Is Manifestation? Meaning, Spiritual Beliefs, and How It Works.
But there is another memory from my own life that helped me understand how a desire can gradually become reality.
A Friend Who Wanted to Work in One Particular Building
During my college years, I had a friend who often talked about wanting to work in a particular office building.
His older sister worked there, and he had visited the building several times. He told me how modern the offices were and how much he wanted to work there after graduation.
At the time, I didn't really understand why he was so attached to that building. Most students I knew talked about the kind of job they wanted or the companies they hoped to join. My friend seemed more interested in the place itself.
Years later, I met him again and learned that he was actually working in that very building.
I was surprised and asked him how it had happened.
He explained that after graduating, he had researched the companies operating there. He looked for job openings, checked their recruitment information, and sent out many résumés.
Eventually, one company accepted him as an intern. Later, he became a full-time employee.
I could tell how proud he was.
For a long time, I remembered that story simply as an example of someone's determination. But when I began learning about manifestation, I thought of my friend again.
He had imagined himself working in that building long before he knew which company would hire him. He kept that desire in his mind, learned what opportunities were available, and eventually found a way inside.
I don't know whether he ever thought about manifestation. I never asked him. But looking back, I feel that his experience came very close to my own understanding of it.

How I Would Begin Practicing Manifestation
When I think about how to manifest something, I often return to my friend's experience.
He didn't begin with a complicated spiritual ritual. He began with something he genuinely wanted.
I believe that is where manifestation starts: knowing what we desire and allowing that intention to become clear within us.
For someone who wants a different job, it might mean imagining the workplace they hope to enter. For someone who dreams of owning a home, it might mean thinking about the kind of place where they would feel comfortable and at peace.
Personally, I like the idea of spending a little quiet time with those thoughts. It could be early in the morning, before the day becomes busy, or in the evening when everything has settled down.
Finding a peaceful moment is not always easy, especially with the noise and distractions of modern life. I have been exploring how sound might help us create that quiet space for spiritual reflection. I shared some of those thoughts in The Last Wish: Can Sound Help Us Connect With Our Inner Energy and Manifestation?.
I sometimes think about how small we are beneath the enormous sky, yet how much hope and determination we can carry within ourselves.
In those quiet moments, I imagine the energy of our thoughts reaching outward and finding harmony with the energy of the universe.
That is the spiritual connection I associate with manifestation. It is not something I think requires elaborate ceremonies or special objects. To me, it begins with a sincere intention and a mind willing to give that intention its attention.
Giving a Desire a Place in Everyday Life
There is another part of manifestation that I find important: allowing our wishes to become part of our everyday thoughts and plans.
Writing down a desire is one way to do that.
If I wanted to accomplish something important, I would probably begin by writing a few notes about what I hoped to achieve and what might help me get there.
My friend did something similar, although I don't remember him keeping a journal. He researched companies, learned about their hiring opportunities, and submitted applications.
His original wish gradually became a series of small actions.
I think that is how our inner energy begins to influence the world immediately around us. A thought changes what we pay attention to. That attention influences our choices, and our choices begin to shape our direction.
From a spiritual point of view, I believe the energy created by a sincere desire can grow as we continue carrying it within us. It becomes part of our determination, our behavior, and even the way we respond to other people.
And sometimes, while we are moving in that direction, an opportunity appears.

Opportunity Is Like a Bird
Many years ago, I read a sentence in a book that stayed with me, although I can no longer remember its title.
It compared opportunity to a bird that comes near us and then spreads its wings and flies away. If we do not catch the moment, it may disappear.
I have thought about that image many times.
There are opportunities we recognize immediately because they are connected to something we have wanted for a long time.
A conversation may lead to a job opening. A chance meeting may introduce us to someone who can help. Sometimes a small decision takes us somewhere we never expected. I believe the same can happen in love. Sometimes, an unexpected meeting can change our lives in ways we never imagined, something I wrote about in How to Manifest Love: My Story of Fate, Energy, and Attraction.
My friend was ready to recognize an opportunity inside that office building because he had already spent so much time thinking about working there.
Perhaps another person would have overlooked the same opening.
This is one reason I believe our thoughts and intentions matter. They keep certain possibilities present in our minds, so when something related to them appears, we are more likely to notice it.
I also like to think that the positive energy we carry can find harmony with the wider universe, bringing us a sense of confidence and direction at moments when we need it.
But even when an opportunity appears, we still have to reach for it.
When the Journey Becomes Difficult
Thinking again about Journey to the West, I realize that Tang Sanzang's journey was never easy. He encountered danger and disappointment repeatedly, yet his intention remained unchanged.
Our lives are not mythical adventures, but I think there is something familiar about that experience.
Sometimes we hold on to a dream for years without knowing when, or even whether, it will become reality.
We may become discouraged. We may change our plans or discover that the path we imagined is no longer possible.
I don't believe those moments mean that the positive energy within us has disappeared.
For me, that energy is also present when we find the courage to continue after disappointment, or when we recognize that a different direction might be better for us.
My friend could not have known which company would accept him. He only knew where he hoped to work, and he kept looking until he found an opening.
That is a much more meaningful picture of manifestation to me than simply waiting for a wish to come true.
Our Energy and the Universe Around Us

Among the countless planets in the universe, Earth is the warm and familiar place we call home.
The Sun lights our days, the Moon brings a gentle glow to the night, and the stars fill the sky above us. People build their lives beneath that sky, each carrying different hopes, worries, and dreams.
The universe around us still holds so many mysteries.
I have often wondered whether the thoughts we carry within ourselves create an energy that reaches beyond us. I believe that when we hold a sincere desire, that energy does not remain hidden inside our minds.
It spreads through our attitudes, our words, and our actions. It can influence the people around us, just as their encouragement and kindness can strengthen our own determination.
And spiritually, I believe our inner energy can also find harmony with the positive energy of the universe.
I don't imagine the universe turning everything around simply to make one person's dream come true. We are the ones who must create our determination, make our plans, and take the steps that bring us closer to what we want.
But I believe the universe around us can be a source of spiritual support, helping us feel connected to something greater than ourselves.
Perhaps that is why I find manifestation meaningful. It brings together our thoughts, our desires, the energy we carry, and the actions we take.
Looking back at my college friend, I no longer think his story was simply about getting a job in a modern office building. It was about a wish he carried for years and the determination that eventually brought him to the place he had imagined.
It makes me wonder how many things in our lives began as quiet wishes we once thought might never come true.
What about you? Have you ever held on to a wish for years, only to see it finally come true? I'd love to hear your story.
